The accident occurred as a group of NLB residents were talking outside of the LBPD North Division Station after attending the monthly meeting of the NLB Community Action Group.
Deputy Chief Robert Luna was the first officer on scene. Two of the CAG members, Dan Pressburg and Chuck Fowler offered assistance at the scene by directing traffic before additional patrol officers arrived.
The following photos tell the story of the first minutes after the accident while volunteers directed traffic, worked to get the victum out of the vehicle, and extinguished a fire that started in the engine compartment.

Update
(Nov. 2, 2009) - In a media release earlier today, LB Police confirmed that the accident victim was a 52-year old Long Beach man who had been involved in a hit and run traffic collision with a 43-year-old motorcyclist near the intersection of Atlantic Avenue and Carson Street.
After being extricated from his vehicle, the 52-year old driver was transported to a local hospital in critical condition where he later died from injuries suffered in the collision. The drivers name is being withheld until the next of kin has been notified. The motorcyclist was transported to a local hospital with minor injuries.
