North Long Beach Redevelopment Project Area Committee
The North Long Beach Project Area Committee is a citizens advisory group made up of volunteers from your community. Each member gives his or her time and energy to help better the area where they live and work, making sure the voices of the residents and businesses are heard down at City Hall.
The group is an integral part of the redevelopment process, working closely with Agency staff and the members of the Agency's Board, providing important input and ensuring that a "checks and balances" is maintained as vital revitalization projects move forward. For more information about becoming involved in the redevelopment process in your North Long Beach neighborhood, e-mail NorthPAC Chair Martha Thuente.
The North Long Beach Project Area Committee's newsletter, NorthPAC Review,
has been covering redevelopment efforts in North Long Beach for nearly six
years. Past issues have featured business facade and streetscape
improvements, neighborhood enhancement of residential properties, the
growing of park space and a community garden, and a number of other
important on-going and future projects that will bring a renewed sense
of pride to the community. These, along with a number of other redevelopment efforts, will continue to be reported through the NorthPAC Review and on NLBCentral.com.
The NorthPAC Review
is a publication of the City of Long Beach Redevelopment Agency,
covering revitalization efforts in the North Long Beach Project Area.
North Long Beach is playing host to the Weedy Seedy Dragons in a vacant lot at Long Beach Boulevard and Home Street.
The traveling art exhibit, courtesy of the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency is part of their public art program. According to Craig Beck, Executive Director of the Long Beach Redevelopment Agency, "Public art helps to shape the identity and sense of cultural pride in a community."
Quoting from a recent Request for Proposals on the Agency website, "The Long Beach Redevelopment Agency (LBRDA) recognizes the importance of public art in enhancing the visual character of our City and has partnered with the Arts Council for Long Beach to select artists who share our vision of creating innovative artwork to enhance targeted areas throughout our community."
It's been rumored in the community however, that the Weedy Seedy's are actually in the area to visit with their cousin, the Dooley Dragon, school mascot at Dooley Elementery located just across The Boulevard.
