The young men and women participated in a six month training program in digital photography, audio and video creation, website design and computer support training. The works created by the students were on display at the Saturday, March 27th event attended by friends, family and a few community menbers.

In his introduction of guest speaker, Councilwoman Rae Gabelich, Bob Cabeza, Executive Director - Community Development, YMCA of Greater Long Beach, noted that Gabelich had been an integral part of the creation of the Opportunity Studio. Councilwoman Gabelich added that it took several years of discussion and planning to create the program, bring the partners together and open the doors of the Opportunity Studio.

The Opportunity Studio is a program funded through the Pacific Gateway Workforce Investment Board and operated by the YMCA of Greater Long Beach to provide education in technology and digital media to prepare youth for careers in a high growth, high-demand industry.
Applications are being taken for the next cycle. Classes are open to out of school youth between the ages of 16 - 21. Students receive high-end digital media training using Apple computers. For more information check the Opportunity Studio website or call 562-570-3752.
